First Grade is starting to settle in nicely! We have some new students, Jayden H., Jaden C., Mahati, Vyomini, Siya, Medha, and Salma. We are giving them a warm CHP welcome. Tomorrow, we are looking forward to a fun day of a pep rally and learning our house assignments. Be sure to ask your child about their day and house assignment in the evening!
First grade is adjusting to school very well! We have become accustomed to the rigors and routines of First Grade and we are learning so much already! We have been improving our reading skills, writing about fall themes, learning about the school community in Social Studies, learning about plants in Science, and mastering number bonds in Math. Plus, we are having a lot of fun! Going into October, we have many new things to learn! Happy Fall, everyone!
We are already having a very busy, yet fun-filled May! We enjoyed performing our Science Fair play, “Geology Rocks”! It was so much fun! Then, on May 7th, we had our school wide Talent/Fashion Show! Each house and class put on a skit. There were many fine individual acts, and the evening ended with the “Wear your Waste Fashion Show”. It was a super fun evening! Now, we will be preparing for Junior Olympics and Annual day! This is such an exciting time of year!
Yesterday, we came back from spring break refreshed and relaxed! We dove right into our studies, and were lucky to get to play outside on such a warm day!
As a reminder, our Science Fair Play is on May 4th at 6 p.m. in the multi purpose room. If your child has a speaking part, please encourage proper enunciation and speaking loudly when you are practicing at home. The multi purpose room is very large and our voices can be quite small! Please also encourage your child to show the proper feelings and emotions with the part.
We are all looking forward to showcasing our talents!
First Grade is really excited about Spring! We are finished with exams, report cards, conferences. WHEW! We’ve been able to enjoy the wonderful weather this week!
In Science, we are learning about weather and the water cycle. We made a neat Water Cycle art project! In Math, we are learning about regrouping in addition and subtraction. After Spring Break, we will start Multiplication and Division! In Social Studies, we just finished our “History Maker” Interview to honor Women’s History Month. We are continuing to strengthen our Language Arts and Reading skills every day!
Yesterday, we had fun celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a few special surprises, books, and special snacks!
Welcome, Spring!!!!
First Grade successfully completed their second trimester exams today! On Tuesday, after we return from our long weekend in honor of President’s Day, we will begin our 1B math books, chapter 4 in SS, chapter 5 in Science, and continue learning reading strategies and writing skills! We are excited about the warm weather, and we are hoping to be able to play on the playground very soon!
Exams are going along quite well! The students are relieved they are halfway over! Please remember that School is CLOSED Friday, February 18th and Monday, February 21th. Keep up the good studying!!!
First Grade had an awesome day yesterday. We had so much fun showing off our crazy hair styles, doing some fun Valentine’s activities, and having our parties. Thanks again to the class moms for another GREAT party!
Please be sure to check out our new link for Sheppard Software!
First Grade has been busily reviewing and preparing for the exams in February. In Science, we are reviewing Chapter 1 right now, and also learning about hibernation for Hibernation Week. In Math we are finishing up our 1A books. In reading, we are reading fictional books about hibernation.
Miss Pranali and Mrs. Seeley have begun working on our science fair costumes. We are very interested in this process.
We are especially excited for Dress Down for Charity Friday this week. Most of us are very excited to wear our jammies for the Pajama Party!
This week the First Graders are learning about hibernation and what types of animals hibernate. They are learning the differences between True and Torpor hibernators and what each type of hibernator does to get ready for winter and to hibernate. Although hibernation is a science topic, we will be tying it into language arts with some reading and writing assignments as well. Then on Friday, what better way to really feel like a hibernating animal than to have a Pajama Day!!! The entire First Grade will be wearing their pajama’s and bringing in their favorite hibernating stuff animal and a pillow and slippers! Sweet dreams!!!
We had such an AWESOME time on our field trip today! We went to see Junie B. Jones (the play) at Raritan Valley Community College . It was a very funny play! We laughed so much! The costumes were super and the actors were terrific. It was great to see some of our favorite characters come to life. We loved it!
